Ephesians 4:1-6

I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

One Love

Give me eyes to see and a heart to know one truth: You are in all I see, and in all I see … you are.

Everywhere I go, each face I see, open my heart to see you, your life, your Spirit breathing, giving and being life, drawing all into the unity that is your will, one with each other and in this oneness knowing, too, we are one with you.

This is our truth, our reality, wherever we go, no matter how far we travel, no matter where our feet wander, wherever fiery red sunsets delight our eye and moonlight embraces our hearts, we are one.

No matter what wounds and wars, distrust and fear separate nations, races and neighbors, we are one, every face, every place and planet, every distant star, one.

All share in one story. All are part of one body, one universe, receiving life and existence from the One you are, sharing a single destiny, union with each other in one body where Love is the air we breathe.

You, Holy One, are in all, drawing us home again, away from the separation that hurts our hearts … and yours. Opening our eyes to the truth that we are one whether we know and feel it or not.

We share a single story, the story of life, the story of this wondrous universe where unbreakable sinews connect all that is with all that is, so that what affects one affects all. There is no separate life in this story, for it is one story.

Separation is an illusion. All are connected. What happens to you affects me. Grace or injustice, love or hate cannot be isolated. They carry their consequences through the whole story, throughout the one body of creation.

So humility and gentleness is the way we must be … for the blessing of all, as you, Holy One, shatter all illusions of separation and draw us home … (soon, we pray) into the One Love you are.
